Create Teaching Resources
If you want to sell your teaching resources online, it may seem impossible.
The online marketplace can be intimidating. If you are like me, you will be filled with self-doubt. Am I good enough? Has it all been done before? When will I have time for this? Let me assure of you of some things…
- You are good enough!
- It has NOT all been done before!
- You can make as much or as little time for it as you want to!
- You CAN sell your teaching resources online.
Get Started Selling Your Teaching Resources Online
Tip #1-Just Start
Just Start! If you have PowerPoint, a computer, and an idea, that is all you need to begin! You may be like me and find that you love being creative and this can become an outlet for all the things you want to do in your classroom but you can’t or don’t have time for if you are stuck to a “big box” curriculum and district mandates. However, a lot of people are perfectionists and will put things off until they seem “perfect” but if you are like me, it will NEVER be perfect. Just start! You will get better with every product that you post and you can always go back and update things later on once you master more skills!
Tip #2- Create Teaching Resources That Spark Joy
Make products about things you love to do in the classroom.
When there is something you love and shine at, then creating a product will not seem like work at all! If you don’t enjoy math or social studies, then don’t make those resources! Personally, I love reading and live for it so I mostly create teaching resources that pertain to reading. I create and sell teaching resources that are ELAR like my Ultimate ABC Countdown. I will also sell thematic center resources because they give me the time I need to get my reading groups done! These are where my passion are so that is what I create. Create things that spark joy!
Tip #3- Don’t Compare
Yes! There is no doubt that you have heard this a million times but I still remind myself of this constantly. Don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle. Most big sellers have spent YEARS building their brand. I hate to say this but you will probably not become an overnight success in this industry. You will need endurance and determination in this long game. I don’t say this to discourage you. In fact, it is quite the opposite. I say this so that when you feel like you aren’t doing enough or that you are “less than,” you need to remember to give yourself grace! Every big seller has been where you are now. But they are where they are now because THEY DIDN’T GIVE UP and neither should you!
Bonus Tip!
Find a mentor or group of people that can help you in this journey. I was in mastermind groups, Facebook groups, and purchased courses to help me with selling teaching resources. You may not be ready for that step and it is perfectly okay. It actually took me 3 years before I felt comfortable investing in my journey. If you are looking for a great coach and mentor, then I recommend Kayse Morris. She has completely changed the way I look at my side hustle. You can see more about her courses here.
On a personal note, I have not met many people that are as inspiring as Kayse Morris. She is funny and real and makes me believe in myself which is big deal coming from someone who never feels “good enough.” I cannot thank her enough for being the positive role model that she is!
